It's been a peculiar year. Last month, a crazy one-day ice/snow/blizzard storm. Yesterday, it felt like the wicked witch from the west is back. I haven't checked the weather over in Kansas City but what a ride home. Here in good old Markham, we pride ourselves on being well prepared for the Winter. A few years ago, there was a bad blizzard so after that we became prepared for Winter. Nature likes to run its course though. "Now that you are ready for Winter, are you ready for unexpected strong winds in Spring," it asks, may I add with some strong action yesterday.
First, before I left work, a sudden electric outage. A temporary blackout for less than a minute at the office. Complete silent, no electricity flowing whatsoever. Everyone was surprised, some may have been shocked, I was still in good spirit because it was already five minutes past the end of the business day and I was about to leave the office. Little did I know that it was even worse out there! Many lights were out and we were all crawling home with our mode of transportation at snail pace. Normally my drive takes about 40 minutes so the crawl was a lot longer. I was surprised that so many lights were out. It was inconceivable. When I got on the highway, the gust was blowing hard at everything in its way, I was extra alert because I did not want to lose control of my wobbly vehicle, some drivers actually drove away from me. I may have been wobbly but I was in my lane the whole time. When I finally got close to home, I saw some gigantic trees DOWN. I am sitting here wondering how many things were struck down by the winds of yesterday. With that said, I wonder if people in the past would take place of residence simply from finding a gigantic fallen tree. It's like: "oh, here I go, here is my material, let me axe away now!".
