I am starting to like the internet less and less. I miss the days, when the internet was mostly texts with minimal photographs, images, sounds and etc.
Anywhere I go now, it's filled with photos and colours and etc. I have my devices set to mute at all times just to at least shut one part of input off. I guess because users have control over audio, that's why a lot of website try to be as visually engaging as possible.
A lot of the places that I used to visit were volunteered run. I believe because those were passion and hobby projects, they are made differently because they are not maintaining a site for money or to keep a job. They get to design something for themselves that they hope people would like to use.
An example, I would use would be the disappearance of distributuon of fansub anime with the introduction and monopoly of the anime world by crunchyroll in the online north american market that is now the official source you goto to see the latest anime with dub or sub thus wiping out the unofficial distribution process. I am guessing maybe the volunteers migrated over to be paid and have to listen to management thus there is less personal distribution flavour now. There is just this one place you goto and that's it. I mean how can the volunteer not be part of the service, they are and were the source. Maybe even the viewers became lazy and no longer go look at written reviews and previews.
Remember the days when you have to go look at the listing, and then research about the show and then make sure you have the correct software installed in your computer and then download the show and then you can finally watch the show? If you were like me, you would even have video editors installed in your computer so you can make a copy of your favourite shows to for storage purposes, it's similar to taping a show on VHS and skipping all the commercials, introduction and ending songs. Those days are now gone. Full service and all at premium price! Open source is no more in the distribution of anime. Even I knew how to use mIRC just so I can get my show faster than everyone else and not have to share!
I've stopped watching anime since crunchyroll started rolling around partly because my lifestyle changed and partly because I could not find anime I want to watch anymore. I am no longer a student and a lot of anime is about the wonderful life of a high school student. My high school life was very different from what was depicted in animes. I did not fall in love, I was not crushing on nobody and nobody was crushing on me. Some Anime are very romantic. There was never a hero in highschool who would fight for someone else. Basically all the things that you wish existed or happened in the real world existed or happened in the anime. In real life, make sure you try to be your own hero each and every day.
There are also anime that depicts real world problems in a comedic way. I really love the exegeration an animator can extend to a character which is enhanced more by the voice actor. I have always prefer sub over dub because I want to hear from the original source even if I did not understand the language. I believe some expressions you just cannot translate.
Anyhow, it's nice to think about anime. Maybe I will start a blog writing my thoughts on all the animes I have watched and what I liked about them.
