This year I rode to Orono, Ontario for my annual long ride. Why? because I went there at least twice before.
The ride went well.
BTW, my tablet went missing since this past Tuesday (May 9, 2023) ! I am contemplating reporting the lost to local police. So far, I am unaware of any significant finanical lost; however, I am monitoring "stuff" that can potentially be tampered with if my device is taken over by an evil person. The local police can do nothing for me except ask a gazillion questions and gather information from me about my lost/possibly stolen tablet. I have been using my tablet as my computer since quite a while ago so I have been offline since the item went missing.
Back to my ride. In order to ride to Orono, I remember roads and ways from memory as well as my map from 2006. Each time I use that map, I become more familiar with it. It's a beautiful thing!
Yesterday I use the index regarding "regional roads" again. I am pretty sure my map cuts off at DRR 9. I have already travelled too far by the time I got to my destination and did not explore DRR 9 some more beyond my 2006 map. Perhaps, I should have; however, my plan was a one day bike ride so i had to turn back and cannot continue further. I am not one of those people who decided to bike ride for an entire month or an entire year. My plan of yesteray was a day trip.
My route HWY 7 > WHITE OR WHITES RD > TAUNTON RD > BEST RD > CONC 7 > BRIDGE > DRR 9 > BRIDGE > CONC 7 > BEST RD > TAUNTON RD > WHITE OR WHITES RD > HWY 7
My indulgence during my travel: iced coffee, donut, baby tomatoes, crackers, water, culture dairy beverage, soy milk, coconut lavender lemonade, vegetarian pizza, meat pizza, dark chocolate wine ice cream.
Places i wished I stopped and shop at includes: local produce store near clarington, prime junk sale, antique store.
I went to the same place to eat bruch and afternoon tea. Part of me wish I went for lunch or afternoon tea at a diner where the parking lot was busy enough. I am wondering if that diner had a "today's special"; however, I had my heart set on pizza and coconut lavender lemonade from the first food place I visited that day during brunch time so I continued passed the diner.
Cheat: On my return trip, at around 4:30 pm I boarded the 915 on Taunton.
The day before my journey, I studied the map and did not write any notes. It was easy, because my route was pretty straight and I did not venture into any park areas with lots of trees and "messier, harder to read" trails away from cars. Yes, the entire time, I was riding besides cars! It is easier to get lost in trails away from cars (I've done that before).
Anyhow, it's much easier to go off on a tangent with a keyboard.
