I believe last Saturday, Toronto experienced one of its coldest Valentine's Day. My boyfriend and I took this opportunity to go on a mini road trip to the Bancroft area which is only 2 and a half hours away from Toronto.
When I was younger, almost every Saturday felt like a Family Day. It is a day where my family would do something fun and playful together for the whole day. Going off on an adventure with my boyfriend reminded me of one of those days.
Our trip began at a local Wal-Mart where we purchased junk food for the drive and for the evening. We decided to travel ("Amazing Race" style) with no GPS. As I am not the greatest navigator, we went in the wrong direction for probably an hour - needless to say we are not cut out to participate in the Amazing Race.
We had lunch at Station Restaurant in Havelock where I received a rose from the waitress! After having a tasty meal (I had a Pizza and he had a pulled pork sandwich) we continued with our travels. We arrived at our destination, Hastings Resort, at around 4:00 p.m. The scenery at the resort was beautiful, calming and mesmerizing. After a short break, we headed out to Bancroft. We saw a group of people snowmobiling. If we had more time, it would have been nice to go snowmobiling around the park at that area. We had a small stroll around the park and at a local No Frills. My boyfriend wanted to take me to the The Blue Roof Bistro, a small but cozy looking restaurant, but he forgot to make a reservation so we ended up eating at a Vito's Pizzeria instead.
We wanted to end the night in a nice warm bath in our Jacuzzi room; however, we could not get the hot water running because too many people were using it (we bugged the staff a few times about the water). We ended up just watching hockey while drinking wine. That pretty much sums up my Valentine's Day. "It was SUPER romantic" says my boyfriend. (Anyways, we did get the hot water running in the morning and it was nice. The wall of the washroom looks like it's made from the same material as a Sauna. I loved it.)
The next morning, my boyfriend took me to the Swiss Bear Restaurant by taking the scenic route. The route was surrounded by frozen lakes, forests and etc... think nature. It was breathtaking. We even stopped by a Beach!! The Swiss Bear Restaurant felt very unique, it is decorated with cute "bear things" like stuff animals, pictures, carpets, etc. The food was also delicious, we both got a type of schnitzels. We noticed that there were lots of baked goods there so we bought some tarts home to share with the family.
How was your Valentine's Day?
