Winter is a reflective season for me. In the past month, I have been thinking a lot about myself, my life, my past, the present and the future. As an early new year's resolution, I decided to start blogging again. Set out below is hopefully the first of many blogs to come from me to you.
P.S. Grammar is not my strong suit so it will be greatly appreciated if anyone can bring to my awareness my (many) grammatical errors. Thank you!
Past, Present and Future
Past, Present and Future is probably a grammar lesson that we all had at some point in our lifetime. The dictionary is probably a reference that we have all used in one form or another (ie. books, e-devices, internet, etc) This morning, while browsing my family's study room, I noticed many different dictionaries my dad purchased over the years. As such, I am going to write about Past, Present and Future by using their respective definitions (or uses) as set out in the Collins Cobuild English Dictionary (published in 1995) ("Cobuild")* and how these terms relate to me. (I apologize in advance if I misunderstood Cobuild in any way).
Past: According to Cobuild, there are 14 uses to the word Past. The definition I have chosen to use for this post is as follows: "Your Past consists of all the things that you have done or that have happened to you".
I would like to think that my Past is a colourful one. It is coloured with many different emotions: joy, happiness, love, gratitude, excitement, hope, sorrow, fear, anger, pain, dislike and etc.
Regardless of what has happened in my Past, it is what shaped me into who I am today and what I will become in the Future. With that said, I am thankful to people, experiences and things that have came into my life. These memories are very valuable to me and I hope I may be able to share with you my love with my Past, Present and Future through blogging. I am sure your Past is a colourful one too!
Present: Cobuild separated the uses of the word Present into 4 categories. The number of uses in each categories are as follows:
In summary, the word Present can be used in 21 ways. The definition I will be using is as follows: "The Present is the period of time that we are in now and the things that are happening now."
I am a Chinese-Canadian. The Present, as I know it, is as follows:
